There is no debate in saying that signage is now so much part of the United States culture that it is almost impossible to imagine living without them. From flashy digital signs giving New York’s Times Square a futuristic vibe to the iconic “Hollywood” Sign adorning the Santa Monica Mountains, the United States is home to some of the world’s most inspiring signs.

At BlinkSigns, we aim to contribute to the United States amazing signage scene. In 2020, we installed 11 pylon signs at the NFL Hall Of Fame that now have become a major tourist attraction for the people visiting Canton. We are still so proud of having been a part of such a landmark project.

At Blink, our team is always looking for inspiration. In this article, we are sharing a list of the landmark signage that have, for a long time, inspired our team to create WOW signs that transcend all boundaries and stand as something that people can inspire from.

Fabulous Las Vegas Sign

Featured in many Hollywood movies, the iconic “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” is an LV landmark built in 1959 by our most inspiring competitors, Western Neon. The history of the sign is as amazing as the sign itself. Betty Wills presented the design at the request of a local salesman Ted Rogich who then sold it to Clark country, Nevada. Since its inception, the sign has welcomed tourists and visitors. Thanks to Betty Wills, the design features dazzling lights and flashy colors that promise a trip full of glamour, fun, and excitement. Owing to its historic significance, the sign was added to Nevada’s list of registered historic places in 2013.

Beverly Hills Sign

Beverly Hills is not just among the most glamorous cities in the United States but is known as one of the most exciting cities in the world. And what could represent Beverly Hills more than the beautiful and artistic 40-foot long Beverly Hills sign, located in Beverly Gardens Park? The sign’s history goes back to 1907 and was established to celebrate the city’s 100th Birthday. The sign is one of the most widely recognized landmarks in Beverly Hills and its beauty and historic significance make it the perfect place to snap a picture.

Grand Canyon National Park Entrance Sign

Grand Canyon National Park is amongst Arizona’s major tourist attractions. It was originally established as a forest reserve in 1893, however, its increasing popularity made it a national monument and was hence made a national park in 1919. The park features many wayfinding and directional signs but the entrance sign placed right as you’re about to enter the National Park is one that you must take a snap with. Take a drive to the Grand Canyon to see their fascinating views and signage.

Chicago Theatre Sign

The history of the Chicago theatre sign is as old as the history of the silver screen itself. The Chicago Theater was constructed in 1921 by two utopian architects, C.W. & Geo. L. Rapp. The theatre is in the heart of downtown Chicago known as “the Loop”. The sign adorning the theatre was built in the same year, i.e. 1921. Holding the status of a Chicago Landmark, the sign has been featured in many Chicago travel magazines and has also made several appearances in famous movies and TV shows. The sign is 18 meters tall and is visible from afar. The Chicago theatre sign has also the honor of being one of the few remaining original exposed lamp electric signs still in use in the United States.

Hollywood Hills Sign

Who thought that a sign temporality put up for an advertisement purpose would become an American landmark and a cultural icon? Overlooking Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, the legendary Hollywood sign was created in 1923 by a local real estate development for advertisement. However, owing to its sheer brilliance and increasing popularity, the sign was left up.  Spelled out in 45 ft (13.7 m)-tall white capital letters and 350 feet (106.7 m) long, the sign is frequently featured in many movies and TV programs set in or around Hollywood. Another interesting fact about the sign is it is amongst the most photographed signs in the world.
