One of the biggest challenges faced by restaurants is to cater the hangries (customers who get angry & impatient when hungry). Thankfully, by using digital signage, restaurants can now offer quick & efficient service and live up to the expectations of even their most impatient customers.

Restaurants and digital signage have come a long way together and it would not be wrong to say that much of the innovation in digital signage has been possible due to the restaurant industry’s constant craving for innovation and technological advancement. For marketing, to PR to customer experience, and everything in between, restaurants have embraced digital signage like no other industry. That is one of the premier reasons why any restaurant without digital signage solutions appears to be outdated and dull to its customers.

While every cafe and bistro is using digital signage in its own creative and innovative way, some of the popular restaurants and eateries are totally nailing it with digital signage and setting new standards for the industry. Here are the top 3 examples

1. Pizza Hut’s Interactive Table Top

Pizza hut introduced an interactive tabletop back in 2014. The interactive tabletop allowed pizza lovers to order and customize their masterpieces through touch screens. Powered with digital technology, the tables allowed guests to use their fingers to increase or decrease the size of the pizza, choose toppings, and swipe through the crust options. If you brought kids with you, you can engage them with the games on the touchscreen instead of holding them from dawdling in the restaurant. It’s super cool and super interactive. Keeps the customers engaged and makes them feel empowered. Pizza hut experimented digital tabletops starting with a few of their outlets and it turned out to great success. A lot of other popular pizza joints are trying to come up with similar solutions.

2. McDonald’s Ordering Kiosks

McDonald’s – one of the pioneers of the fast-food industry, and the leading fast-food chain is also setting new standards for improving customer experience by installing self-service kiosks. McDonald rolled out self-ordering kiosks for its US location in 2015. The concept was widely appreciated by its customers and turned out to be a great success. Earlier, some of the McDonald stores with high foot traffic had long queues which were a major turn off for many customers. Kiosks significantly cut down queues, making the ordering process much more satisfying. Now self-ordering kiosks are available in McDonald’s worldwide locations. Apart from customer experience, another interesting thing that resulted from kiosks is that customers started to buy more than they would otherwise. The reason being is that kiosks unlike human beings never forget to upsell. So when presented with extra options, the customers are lured into buying more.

3. Chili’s Tabletop Tablets

Chili’s tabletop tablet is similar to that of pizza hut interactive tabletop just with slight differences. The concept is to make the dining experience enjoyable in a way that is as delicious and inhibition-free as possible. The chili’s tabletop tablets were introduced back in 2014 and are android powered. Chili’s experiment proved to be successful and the technology is now spreading to more of its locations. The automation is amazing. Instead of waiting for an employee to bring your check, you can swipe your credit card on an electronic tablet that is available at each table, and also prints the receipt. During the meal, your kids can play games on the tablet for a flat fee of 99 cents.
