Introduction

BlinkSigns coordinated with Pennbid on the parking signage project for the RACC campus in Reading, Pennsylvania. The project combines illuminated pylon signs with directional wayfinding signs to improve parking identification and provide clear guidance across the campus. Designed to support visitors, faculty, and staff, the signage helps users locate parking areas, follow designated routes, and reach their destinations with greater ease.

Illuminated Pylon Signs

The project includes nine illuminated, four-sided pylon signs, each 8 feet 6 inches tall with a 20-inch-square aluminum cabinet. Parking lot identification and RACC branding are visible from multiple approaches. White translucent push-through acrylic lettering and logos are illuminated by internal LEDs. Split-face masonry bases, beveled stone caps, reinforced foundations, and drainage gravel support the exterior installation. Electrical connections and lot-specific messages are coordinated with each sign layout.

Design elevation blueprints and installed photos of RACC gray and red visitor and staff parking directional signs.

Directional Wayfinding Signs

Five non-illuminated wayfinding signs sit 4 feet above grade, with lot letters and arrows directing visitors, faculty, and staff. Each uses a 1-inch aluminum cabinet, Cool Gray 10 painted faces, white vinyl graphics, and red hexagonal aluminum mesh behind a stud-mounted white RACC logo. Galvanized steel posts anchor the signs to reinforced concrete piers.

Final Result

Challenges and Solutions

  • Navigation Across Multiple Parking Lots

Lot specific pylon lettering and five directional wayfinding layouts provide parking identifiers and visitor or faculty and staff directions. The directional wayfinding drawings also record a revised Lot E arrow location.

  • Design and Scope Revisions

Two additional Lot A pylons increased the pylon quantity from seven to nine. Revisions adjusted the gray back panel to 19 1/4 inches. R5 also records a Type F sign location change and separate artwork for match plates.

  • Consistent Visual Identity

The package specifies Pantone 704C red, white graphics, and coordinated gray finishes. R5 updates the gray finish reference, while logo and material details support consistent fabrication.

Results

  • Clearer Parking Identification

Prominent lot letters and directional messages help visitors, faculty, and staff identify parking areas.

  • Consistent Campus Branding

Coordinated logos, colors, and finishes create a unified campus identity across the different sign types.

  • Support for Exterior Service

Specified drainage, water-shedding features, and structural details support the signage’s outdoor use.
